About
Mitchell Energy is a progressive company that acquires equity in coal assets, de-risks those assets for unconventional gas development, and then up-sells commercial projects or investment opportunities.
Mitchell Energy targets coal resources that are stranded by geological, geographic or commercial conditions. By implementing one or more innovative clean gas extraction or coal conversion technologies Mitchell Energy turns stranded coal into economically recoverable energy. Having a range of downstream monetisation options completes a vertically integrated business model of wealth creation.
With established roots in specialist coal and coal bed methane (CBM) drilling services, we leverage exceptional project implementation capabilities as well as a number of strategic technology alliances to provide a complete approach to developing unconventional gas projects.
Mitchell Energy focuses on two avenues for growth. Firstly, we target current commercial hubs, and seek equity participation through the creation of strategic partnerships with resource holders. By leveraging our unique combination of technology and implementation, Mitchell Energy is able to gain equity positions in resource plays with immediate and compelling commercial attributes.
Our second avenue for growth is through asset acquisition, which relies on our strategic commercial and technical screening to target opportunities in emerging markets with strong technical cases for unconventional gas developments. With our deep understanding of our core technologies and their associated economics, we are able to implement the right technology to optimise specific geological and commercial criteria at any location.
With an estimated 93% of the world's coal stranded, Mitchell Energy is positioning to take a global leadership role in clean and cost effective solutions to coal utilisation, driving investment and development in markets typically overlooked by conventional energy developers.
Stranded Coal
- Coal contains around 95% of the planets fossil fuel energy, yet only 7% of that coal can be utilised through mining
- Coal can be stranded by geological, geographical and commercial factors
- Projections of energy consumption show that oil, natural gas and mined coal are not sustainable energy sources
- Climate change is driving fossil fuels to be used in cleaner ways
- Mitchell Energy uses clean coal technologies to utilise the world's stranded coal
